It's all about impact!

Welcome to Section 7 of the GCIP Accelerator application form: the GCIP Impact Hypothesis. This tool is custom designed to help you quantify the social and climate impact potential of your innovative solution.

The GCIP Impact Hypothesis is an integral part of the GCIP accelerator application form. It must be completed at the same time with all other sections of the application form.

CREATE YOUR GCIP IMPACT HYPOTHESIS

This tool enables the preliminary evaluation of a company's activity and scale, and the potential impact of its innovative solutions. It will provide you with an hypothesis of the positive impact of your company; an initial estimate that will be refined by adding more details and evidence further on in the GCIP Impact Framework.

The result of this tool will be your hypothesis, describing your company and its Social and Environmental potential in a short statement.

After filling out the form below, you can hand in your result to the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme by email and receive a copy. The impact hypothesis is mandatory for your application.

To support you with the GCIP Impact Hypothesis, a demo webinar will be held on UNKNOWN DATE. It is recorded to support you with the GCIP Impact Hypothesis, and to guide you through each question step by step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a demonstration and a few examples of using the Impact Hypothesis?
Certainly! Click here for the webinar recording. Passcode: y=2$eJNV
When is the deadline to complete this exercise?
Deadline to send in your Impact Hypothesis differs per location, your program managers/ PMUs will inform you of specific deadlines.
Can I save a file to get back to it later?
Yes you can save your Impact Hypothesis:
  1. Click 'Save' (on the top to the right)
  2. A file will download to your computer
  3. Your data is not stored online
To continue with a previously saved Impact Hypothesis:
  1. Click 'Open' (on the top to the right)
  2. Select a previously downloaded Impact Hypothesis file on your computer
  3. You can continue working
Can I add my own impact data?
Yes, for instance to add custom transport data:
  1. Select 'Transport'
  2. Select 'add custom transport' (from the bottom of the list)
  3. Change 'specify custom transport' to 'electric car per km'
  4. Provide the climate impact in kgCO2eq for this electric car per km
  5. Provide the source you use for this data, preferably as a link
What is the source of the data used?
We use the LCD database IdeMat, in the Impact Hypothesis and Climate Impact Forecast. The data is also available as an IOs and Android app.
Is it possible to select multiple options for SDGs?
In this impact hypothesis, it is possible to select one SDG. Selected applicant will be offered a more comprehensive SDG profile in the programme.
Would you advise companies to select one priority sustainable activity, if their solution has multiple benefits?
Indeed, choose the predominant benefit, and mention co-benefits in the company mission section. At a later stage we will be inquiring about all of the activities of your company, and use a tool where you can add unlimited activities and resources.
How does GHG emission from product manufacture add to the final product Greenhouse gas reduction in the Impact Hypothesis?
In the Impact Hypothesis you can select only one emission source, and it could be a production process. But it is not added up to other differences like material used. Later on, in the Climate Impact Forecast, you will be able to add up multiple resources in production, use and the end of life for a more comprehensive calculation of your total GHG emissions.
We made a mistake in filling out the form. What is the implication?
This is no problem, just send another version and we will use the most recent version for each company.
How many times can we fill out the form in case of a mistake?
There is no limit to filling in the Impact Hypothesis. We will use the most recent (latest) version of your Impact Hypothesis send via the tool. If you dont send the file to your own emal adress we won't receive a copy and we can't select you for the pilot phase.
Is it possible to record the assumptions that are made and the logic behind them, e.g. calculations for market size, etc.?
We are looking for an estimation and currently we do not need a lot of detailed substantiation of assumptions. When selected for the program we ask you to support your assumptions with arguments, calculations and the right sources.  It is also not possible to put in a range. If you have a range please select the midpoint of the range.
Is it possible to forecast a range?
It is not possible to put in a range. If you have a range please select the midpoint of the range.
We have multiple sources of emissions and reductions, how can we consider all of them?
In the Impact Hypothesis, you can only select 2 differences. We advise you to make the calculation for the several emission sources and reductions, and decide to go with the most impactful ones at this stage. When selected in the programme you will gain access to a more comprehensive tool that allows you to insert as many emission and reduction sources as are needed.
What is the email to use in sharing the completed form?
Please fill in your own (company) email address when sending the Impact Hypothesis.
When is something positive impact and what are negative footprints?
A positive climate impact is made by reducing GHG emissions, aka a negative carbon footprint.
Positive climate impact Negative climate impact
Negative carbon footprint Positive carbon footprint
- 100 kgCO2eq. +100 kgCO2eq.
Reduction of greenhouse gasses Emission of greenhouse gasses
Livelihoods protected against changes Livelihoods threatened by changes
